Day 1 (con't): Adventures in South Korea continues…

At the airport:

So, I show up at the airport and wait for Bharati to meet me. And I wait. And I wait. A couple of times some of the taxi drivers come up to me and ask me if I want a taxi. I say no and that I’m waiting for my wife.

An hour later one of the taxi drivers ask me if I want to tall my wife on her ‘mobile’. I tell him she doesn’t have one. At this point I’m pretty tired and almost falling asleep on my feet. 28hrs from door to airport is a loooong time with very little sleep. The ‘airport manager’ came around a few times to check in on me and said that if I needed a room, he could get me one, cheap.

So, how can I get in touch with my wife? I start thinking. Ok, the local payphones are no good but they do have pay-as-you-go Internet Kiosks. So, I could try to get in touch with one of her friends in Korea and see if she knows how to get in touch with my wife. Bharati was coming to the airport with a friend(Michelle) who is meeting her sister (landed 30mins after I did apparently). So, I exchange some USD for some WAN and off I go. First thing to try, Skype. I wasn’t sure if Skype had a web interface but I soon found out that it did not. Ok, facebook. On I went, sent a message to a friend of Bharati’s(Karri) to let her know what’s up and that I’ve not heard from my wife yet. Since this is obviously a one-way converstation, not much else I could do. I was hoping that maybe Bharati’s friend (Michelle) would have a cell and that Karri would be able to call them.

11:30pm local time, Bharati & Michelle show up. Ok, that little wait is over. Now, it’s too late to get any kind of reasonable transport back to Gongju so we will stay at Incheon (Like Toronto, Seoul’s airport is actually in a smaller city right beside it, in this case Incheon). Bharati did say that the airport had some real cheap rooms ($15/person) where all the women stay in one room and all the men in another. To be honest, didn’t fly 10000kms to stay in a different room than my wife.

I went to the airport manager and said how much. He told us 80 (80,000 wan, which is about $90 CDN). We said sure and off we went on the next little adventure….
