Are you kidding me? With all the other stuff out there to be concerned about about, they have to pick on a local business??? These are people who haven’t the foggiest clue about economy and society. This is NOT the 50′s where a woman would never dare wear anything that revealed a shoulder lest she be labeledlabelled a ‘lady of the night’ or somesuch.

Have these people even paid attention to the way the Catholic girls are ‘dressing’? They certainly show more skin than some stupid sing ever will! Not saying that it’s wrong but merely pointing out an obvious sexual demonstration compared to a frickin sign.

I suspect that it was some fat chick who couldn’t afford the belly dancing lessons so has taken it upon herself to campaign against such wanton display of sexuality.(see http://media.ebaumsworld.com/mediaFiles/picture/238063/916229.png) You’d think that the store put out a red light for business….sheesh. Hell, I’ll donate one just for kicks!

Canadians have much to learn about how the world really works.

This article, in the pathetic attempt to be some sort of authority, claims that an economic indicator is the sale of coke in a country.  Here’s a quote from the article and my response.
‘ In times of war and political strife in recent years, Coke sales have dipped; when stability returned, so did the soda consumption”
Are you kidding me?  Somehow a nation’s economy and happiness is based on coke sales?  talk about the dumbest thing I have read in a LONG time….geeze, let’s hope the sales of BMW’s aren’t affect by war either…..oh wait….
*****
I didn’t even bother read the rest of the article.  I’m sure other brain-dumbing and ‘not obvious to anyone with an IQ above 4′ facts are in there as well….like how a house will _actually_ get wet during
a rain shower!  My god!  Car ruise nights attendance drops too!  Shocking but true!
It’s schlock like this that affirms the statement “The Internet makes you stupid.”
Personally, I’d like to know how that site gets funded when crap like that is spewed out.

EU Court Of Justice Says Selling Ads On Trademarked Keywords Is Not Trademark Infringement

Wednesday, September 23rd, 2009

So browsing my daily does of stupid, I come across this article.  it simply floors me at the lack of people’s vision.    Then again, mass media brainwashing pushes them, the education doesn’t do anything but feed fact with zero thought behind them (i.e. the blindingly obvious fact that history is written by the winners….rather one-sided information at best).  Read the article and you’ll see my response.  I’ve also posted it below as well….

**************

So now companies are so badly managed, as to not withstand a downturn in the economy, they turn to crying desperate pleas of ‘they are walking on our lawn!’ so that noone else can possibly sell anything that even hints at competition. Where will it stop? With Loreal now sue Sears for having a Britney Spears perfume sitting on the shelf next to it because ‘people may buy the OTHER perform because it’s trying to be like Loreal’? No different in the digital world. This is simple a shift in mentality and what, used to be called, an open market is. With searches and ads being built on keywords, how does this differ than any other advertising campaign? Maybe I should start a company called “Advertising Campaign” and sue anyone who ever uses those two words in their corporate documentation? Are people so confused that they actually believe that competition never, ever uses another company’s product to promote their own? How soon people forget their history lesson (http://legacy.lclark.edu/~nilsen/whitelaw.html). But companies will do anything to get more advertising for free I suppose….

What the hell is wrong with Hamilton??

Friday, September 11th, 2009

That question is meant in both senses.  Meaning that the question is asked OF Hamilton Leaders AND from the people who refuse to let anything seriously good come here.

There has been ths long cry for jobs in this city.  Everyone whines about Stelco and Dofasco shutting down and the massive amount of jobs that have been lost.  And yes, people are whining.  I, for one, love the fact that I can _almost_ see Buffalo through the light purple haze that hovers over our city.  The air doesn’t smell as bad (they still really need to work on CVOP in Burlington St…) and the value of land is going up!

For those that are missing the bot, the services industry has ALWAYS been where the money is at.  Don’t believe me?  I would like to point out that cost of a car part versus the cost of actually putting it on.  A friend of mine had complete brake work done on his 2000 Mustang GT and it cost him $2800 at a Ford dealership.  I can pretty much gaurantee you that the parts were less than $1000.  Labour has always been more than the parts and that is where the money is.  And this trend is ont he rise with the Health Sector getting more and more employee

So, here’s the problem.  Toyota wanted to setup shop in Flamborough.  Toyota pays well and looks at things in an extremely long term view.  They aren’t the ‘oops, economy is bad so we’ll just shut down the new plant we spent millions opening up’ type of guys.  Yet Hamilton said no.  So they went to Brantford who is now reaping the benefits of a major manufacturer with land values and JOBs increasing.  What a waste.

Now we have a MAJOR Canadian businesman who has MONEY to put a NHL team in HAMILTON and guess what….because of some petty little commisioner, it’s being screwed.  It’s like noone wants Hamilton to get any where.  This buracratic red tape bullshit has got to go.  Petty people who simply get in the way of progress should get a pair of cement shoes and dropped into the Bay.

The sad thing is that this is a common problem with Canadians.  There is no pressure to do any better.  They are simply satisifed with the status quo unless they get something from it.  It’s the passive WIIFM (what’s in it for me) mentality that is killing our economy and our creativity.  It’s also the ‘<shrug> we’ll get around to it’ or the “yeah, you got a good idea there……….” and then nothing else.  While it may be a funny joke that Canadian over who’s teh more polite (You go throught he door….no you go first…..no I instist that you go first….. no dammit I said YOU go first…..) it is the same in business.  Noone feels any pressure to do anything worthwhile.

It’s no wonder that I don’t so well here in business…..if you ain’t part of the ‘good ol boys club’ then you simply don’t get anywhere significant.  This world will be overrun why the Chinese because they have it worse than us.  Here the Gov’t will take care of you…..there the Gov’t will just take you.  Pretty good motivation to do something and make something of yourself.  Canada just sleeps.

I'm on a (HTC) Dream Quest!

Friday, September 4th, 2009

Given the last blog entry (Just look down<G>) you would think the title should say “I’m on a Vision Quest”.  You’d be right except that is not what I am talking about.  I am trying to get my hands on one of these little suckers.

I have found that using a tool to help manage my incredibly busy life, I simply NEED one of these.  I’ve use the traditional DayTimer calanders in the past, they work fine but obviously have some limitations (try searching for ‘computer’ in one of those!).  A couple years ago I bought a Palm Zire 21.  It worked great until the battery life became 20mins or less and started randomly resetting on me.  So shortly after that happened I bought a Z22 model (used like the Z21 was).  Well it hasn’t lasted me a year before it started doing the same thing.

Last year, before I started to work for RIM, I contemplated the iPhone.  What geek wouldn’t love such a damn cool looking device.  Slick and geeky…..it was the Uber Toy at that point in time.  Since then the market has matured incredibly and many new devices have surfaced.  While at RIM, I had a BlackBerry Curve.  It was great and massively useful to me.  Too bad I had to hand it in when I left.  Still, it was fun and I really leaned towards them, away from the iPhone for the longest time.  Now that my Z22 is on it’s way out, I need something else.

Having reconsidered my position on the iPhone I went off to do my research.  After finding out just how tied into iTunes it is, I immediately had to change my mind.  iTunes doesn’t run on Ubuntu/Linux.  Apple has really locked that down and probably won’t budge for quite some time.  Fine by me, their loss.

Now, given my recent integtration wtih Google I wanted something that would sync with their stuff (GMail, Docs, Calendar…) and since they have phones with their own OS on it, I hunted one down.  I found that for my needs, a HTC Dream is the best one.  There are number of apps that I am looking at specifically which perfectly align with the online tools that I use on a daily basis.

So, if anyone knows of a good deal to BUY one outright, and is local to the Golden Horseshoe in Ontario, I’m all ears.
