Korea IS different….
Wednesday, May 4th, 2011Normally my posts are all interesting and funny, this one is somewhat morbidly odd.
I have a running Google search that emails me articles it finds everyday. In this way I get a good overall picture of what is happening in the country, and sometimes I get odd things. Like this article:
South Korean man found crucified, wearing crown of thorns in abandoned stone quarry

SEOUL, South Korea — The body of a man with his hands and feet nailed to a wooden cross and a crown of thorns on his head has been found in an abandoned stone quarry, South Korean police said Wednesday.A man wearing only underwear, with a wound on the side of his torso and nylon strings tied around his neck, arms and stomach, was found crucified Sunday in Mungyong, about 115 miles (190 kilometres) southeast of Seoul, said Chung Ji-chun, chief of the violent crime section at Gyeongbuk Provincial Police Agency.
Two smaller crosses were erected on each side of the cross he was nailed to, Chung said.Police also found nails, a hammer, an electric drill, pieces of wood and instructions on how to build crosses inside a tent near the scene, Chung said. An SUV belonging to the dead man was found nearby.
Police are waiting for a forensic report to determine the exact time and cause of the man’s death and whether it was a homicide or suicide.
Chung identified the man as a 58-year old surnamed Kim.

While the method of death is certainly not a new one, it is peculiar that so much effort went into it. I’ve seen people dressed in severely questionable style, heard people arguing at midnight, saw a fight break out in a retail store at 10pm, and seen 12 year olds who could pass for 20-something without batting an eye. But someone going to such extremes for a death…..yup, that tops my list in that which is Korea.
